How can I make my boyfriend understand that sending pictures of inappropriate stuff is wrong?

Question:

My boyfriend keeps on insisting that I send him pictures of my booty and thighs and other inappropriate stuff. I’m a born-again Christian and to me this is wrong. I find it completely disrespectful. My body is the temple of the Lord as already written. How can I make him understand that if he wants to see all, we need to get married first? It’s not like we’ll even get married anytime soon because we’ve just recently gotten into the relationship. How can I make him understand that it is wrong in the eyes of God and make him understand while I am at it?

Answer:

Dating is a time for learning who the other person really is and then deciding if that is the person you want to live the rest of your life with. Hopefully, people become better over time but that is not usually the case. More often people become worse as they get comfortable and think they can get away with more bad behavior.

I’m glad you realize that what he is insisting on is wrong. Paul points out that sin is progressive. “For this is the will of God, your sanctification; that is, that you abstain from sexual immorality; that each of you know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor, not in lustful passion, like the Gentiles who do not know God” (I Thessalonians 4:3-5). God wants you set apart for a holy purpose (that is what “sanctification” means). But you can’t be holy while engaging in sex outside of marriage. In order not to end up committing fornication, you have to exercise self-control. But you won’t be able to control your body if you keep filling your mind with lustful thoughts.

Your boyfriend is lusting over your body. His demands will increase each time you give in because his ultimate goal is to have sex. This is about his own gratification. He is not showing concern about you or your honor.

What you need to do is recognize who he is. He might become a better person later, but right now he is not someone who will make you a good husband. My advice is to dump him and tell him that if he ever grows up to see you as a solid Christian woman, then you might consider dating him again, but meanwhile, you will continue to look for a proper Christian to date.

Thank you so much.
