Question:
Hi! My mother is 5’4 and my father is around 6’1. I am 5’6 at the age of 13. I had an extreme growth spurt of about 3 inches when I was 12. I started my period a couple of months before I turned 13. Am I going to get much taller? Or is this close to my final height?
Answer:
For some girls, menarche (your first period) signals the end of the rapid growth spurt phase of development. Over the next year or two, you might put on an additional one to two inches, but probably not much more than that. From your description, it sounds like you have developed in a fairly typical order and at a fairly typical rate. You will probably reach a height of 5′ 7″ or 5′ 8″ by the time you reach adulthood.
