I’m pretty skinny. Will I ever look womanly?

Last updated on October 17, 2020

Question:

I am seventeen, and according to the Tanner Stage Calculator for Girls I am already mostly out of puberty, at 4.7. I have reached my maximum predicted height, etc. However, my body is still straight like a younger girl. My hips have hardly widened, and my breasts are still a small B-cup. My butt is also almost completely flat. I am pretty skinny (107 pounds, 5’4”), and can’t seem to retain weight. My sister is rather curvy, and my mother is at least a large C-cup. Everyone tells me that I have a pretty face, but it still feels like something is missing. Is there something wrong with me? Will I never look womanly?

Answer:

Not everyone is the same shape, nor does every man find the same shape attractive. Rather than focusing on your outward shape, which you have little control over, you should focus on what truly makes a woman stand out in a crowd — your character. “Let your beauty be not just the outward adorning of braiding the hair, and of wearing jewels of gold, or of putting on fine clothing;  but in the hidden person of the heart, in the incorruptible adornment of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God very precious” (I Peter 3:3-4). “Dumb blondes” are a dime-a-dozen, but women with character are a rare breed.
