Question:

Please, I want to ask a question and I want to understand something better. Is touching my own breasts a sin? I am finding it hard to understand because I am addicted to it. I want to know if it’s a sin in the sight of God, please, so I can put my mind at ease and stop doing it if it is a sin.

Answer:

It would be hard to bathe without touching your own body.

The human body has numerous areas that are connected with sexual pleasure. The genitals are the most obvious, but there are other regions that have a similar impact, as you have discovered. The breasts, particularly the areas around the nipples, are one of these regions. The rules regarding modest clothing include keeping these sensitive areas covered. This is also why we are commanded not to sexually touch each other. “Now concerning the things of which you wrote to me: It is good for a man not to touch a woman” (I Corinthians 7:1). However, it is not sinful to touch yourself.

What can be sinful is to get involved in thinking about having sex outside of marriage while you are touching yourself. Lustful thoughts about sin are wrong. “For this is the will of God, your sanctification; that is, that you abstain from sexual immorality; that each of you know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor, not in lustful passion, like the Gentiles who do not know God” (I Thessalonians 4:3-5).
