Question:
I’m nearly 15 and I still haven’t got my period. I’m small about 5’1″ and I’m only 3 on the Tanner scale. What should I do? Should I be worried? All my other friends have big breasts and so does the rest of my family? Help!
Answer:
Being fourteen and at stage 3 is later than average, but not so far out of line that it isn’t considered normal. However, for your peace of mind, visit your family doctor and ask to have a bone age test. This will better pinpoint how far along in your development you are.
Menstruation starts in stage 2 for some girls but can start as late as stage 4 for other girls. You just have the unlucky combination of being slower in development and not starting your periods until stage 4.
