Question:
Hello,
My daughter is 4’9 and is 10 years old. She has just had her first full period. Our Pediatrician was awful to us and said that she won’t grow any taller because she started her period. This has got us so worried. She is still really skinny and flat-chested, and we can’t work out why she started. Will she continue to grow to what she is meant to be? I have heard people say that they grew after their period but the doctor is telling us otherwise.
Help. We are worried sick.
Answer:
Change doctors.
See:
- Do you stop growing in height after you get periods?
- How soon after menstruation do girls stop growing?
- Does a girl stop growing two years after their first period?
Your daughter is in stage 2, so she is among the group that starts menstruating early. It won’t impact her growth.
