Question:
I had a prophet visit our church a couple of months back. Basically, he told me that I didn’t need my boyfriend and to cut it loose before I die. My boyfriend is three years younger than I am. I feel like we are soul mates and our souls actually connect. He struggles with responsibility, and we have disputes. But I do love him, and I believe he loves me, but I keep thinking about what this prophet told me.
Answer:
I’m afraid I have to stop at the point when you said “prophet.” There are NO modern-day prophets according to the Bible. “Love never fails; but if there are gifts of prophecy, they will be done away; if there are tongues, they will cease; if there is knowledge, it will be done away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part; but when the perfect comes, the partial will be done away” (I Corinthians 13:8-10). I realize that there are people wanting to believe in modern-day revelations from God, but the fact is that when the Bible (the perfect law of liberty — James 1:25) was completed, the need for prophecy and the other miraculous gifts ended.
Thus, I already know that you have been talking to someone who lies, so there is nothing he says that I would trust.
But regarding your boyfriend, I understand you have an emotional connection to him, but what is it about him that makes you conclude that he would be a good husband. So far you have told me:
- You argue a lot
- He is irresponsible
So far you are not persuading me that you have made a good choice in a potential husband.
