Will God still forgive me after I committed fornication twice?

Question:

Hi,

I am an 18 years old girl. I have committed fornication twice with two different guys. I know what the Bible says and what the Lord commands for us in His Word: to be sexually pure until marriage. Well, I’ve known this my whole life, so I have no excuse. I simply slip and fell into temptation. I know God is merciful and His grace is abundant. Will I still be forgiven, even if I went back and had sex again after I had already done it once? Will a Christian guy still want to be with me even after knowing, or should I just forget about dating?

Answer:

Forgiveness of sins depends on your confessing your sins to God (I John 1:9) and your repentance. Repentance means changing your behavior and changing your mind about your sins. “For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted; but the sorrow of the world produces death. For observe this very thing, that you sorrowed in a godly manner: What diligence it produced in you, what clearing of yourselves, what indignation, what fear, what vehement desire, what zeal, what vindication! In all things you proved yourselves to be clear in this matter” (II Corinthians 7:10-11). Thus, the question is whether you are going to change. “What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it?” (Romans 6:1-2). God looks at who you are and not who you used to be or how many times you had sinned.

“But if a wicked man turns from all his sins which he has committed, keeps all My statutes, and does what is lawful and right, he shall surely live; he shall not die. None of the transgressions which he has committed shall be remembered against him; because of the righteousness which he has done, he shall live. Do I have any pleasure at all that the wicked should die?” says the Lord GOD, “and not that he should turn from his ways and live?”” (Ezekiel 18:21-23).

Again, a true Christian looks at a person for who they are. We all have sins in our past. If a guy rejects you after finding out you are not a virgin, then he isn’t a guy worth having as a husband. But do be careful. There are guys claiming to be Christians but who do not follow after Christ. Such a guy may hear that you are not a virgin and think it is fine to seduce you into his bed. Such a guy is not for you either.
