Question:

I told my boyfriend know that we had to get married before we have sex, but he forced himself on me and had sex with me. Now he is begging me to forgive him but I have refused to pick his calls and reply to his messages. What should I do — forgive and continue with him or leave him?

Answer:

For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses” (Matthew 6:14-15).

When someone tells you that they have changed, you are required to forgive that person — it is not an option. In forgiving, it means you will not hold his sin against him, such as taking him to court for rape. However, it does not mean you have to continue with him as his girlfriend. His action shows an extreme flaw in his character. He believes that strength allows him to do as he pleases. This is not a good quality in any man, let alone in someone you would want as your future husband. Hopefully, he will learn and treat his future girlfriend with the respect that she deserves. Meanwhile, you need a man of character in your life.
