Can sperm that entered your pants cause you to get pregnant?

Question:

Please, I want to ask if sperm that entered your pants can cause you to get pregnant if you are a virgin. I was playing romance with my fiance and he ejaculated into my pants. Afterward, I cleaned it up, but I am scared that it could get me pregnant. It has been less than a week now. I need an answer, please.

Thanks.

Answer:

Sometimes small words can make a difference in understanding, so I’m going to repeat back what I think you said in different words to make sure I understand what happened. You and your boyfriend were fooling around sexually doing what would normally be called sexual foreplay. He undid his pants, pulled out his penis, and put it into your undone pants. In his excitement, he ejaculated even though his penis was not in your vagina.

Though the odds of getting pregnant are very small, no one can say for certain that it is absolutely zero. I’m assuming you had underwear on, but that isn’t a good barrier against sperm. Depending on the position of his penis when he ejaculated, it is possible that small droplets reached the outer edges of your vagina. Since sperm swim, it is possible for them to move up the vagina. Very few are likely to survive the journey, but all it takes is one sperm reaching an egg to cause pregnancy. Whether you are a virgin or not will not make any difference.

The possibility of pregnancy is not the full problem. The problem is that you and your boyfriend are sinning. Sex is for married couples. “Marriage is honorable among all, and the bed undefiled; but fornicators and adulterers God will judge” (Hebrews 13:4). An intention to be married is not the same as being married. That is why you are afraid of becoming pregnant — you’re not married and not yet ready to have a child.

What you two are engaging in is called lust or lewdness in the Bible. As Paul feared for the Corinthians when he said, “and I shall mourn for many who have sinned before and have not repented of the uncleanness, fornication, and lewdness which they have practiced” (II Corinthians 12:21), you have been engaging in the same thing. The problem with sin is that it isn’t fully satisfying; therefore, there is always the temptation to go just a little bit further each time. Likely you won’t end up pregnant this time, but what about next time? And when those games get old, what stops him from tempting fate and seeing if he get further with you?

Rather than letting him use you for an outlet for his sexual urges, insist that you two get married first, and then you will have the freedom to fully give yourselves to each other. But until that time, stop sinning.
